IRS announces tax relief for victims of severe storms and flooding in Louisiana
Victims of severe storms and flooding that began May 17, 2021, now have until August 16, 2021, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service announced today.
Individuals and households affected by severe storms and flooding that reside or have a business in Ascension, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, and Lafayette Parishes qualify for tax relief.
LCPA Advocacy Team has requested of the Louisiana Department of Revenue to issue guidance for state returns but does not have confirmation yet of whether they will follow IRS guidance.
SB239 Hurricanes Laura, Delta and Zeta
Senate Bill 239 has been enrolled by the Senate and will now be sent to the Governor for his consideration to sign for enactment into law. If the Governor signs SB239, it will be effective on the date of his signature.
Provisions of SB239 if signed into law will have prospective and retrospective application.
Proposed law, SB239, adds Hurricane Zeta and the increased federal standard deduction to last year’s Act 26, which modified the definition of "federal income tax liability" to include certain federal net disaster losses.
We will notify you if the Governor does sign SB239 into law.
